Tibetische Schneelöwen

The snow-lion is Tibet’s national animal emblem. Its form adorns Tibet’s national flag, its government seals, coins, banknotes and stamps, and the insignia of the Dalai Lama.

The lion’s roaming free over the mountain peaks show that the yogin has gained the realm of absolute freeedom.

Der Schneelöwe (tib.: gangs seng ge; nach Gendün Chöpel auch Gangchen Nag gi Senge, deutsch: Löwe aus dem bewaldeten Himalaya[1]) ist ein allegorisch–mythologisches Tier des Buddhismus in Tibet. Er ist das bekannteste der Symbole Tibets und ist in zweifacher Ausführung sowohl auf der Flagge, als auch auf dem Siegel der tibetischen Exilregierung zu sehen.
